Holiday Letter 2006
December 2006
Dear Friends and Family,
Holiday letters two years running, whatever can that mean? If you've missed any, this and all the others are at www.georgejenson.com. Life is great, 2006 was extraordinary, we are blessed with great friends and family, and thankful for all of it.
George went to Oregon, Washington, and Canada in January, building airplane parts and diving with Brett and Dawg. 45 degree water! Box checked, not likely to be repeated, definitely prefer warmer water.
Mardi Gras was great, and solidly attended - it truly is a local holiday and they were out in force. Michael, Ragnar, and Jimmy joined George and Carl on the Endymion Krewe, Jennifer was the belle of two balls including the Friday Night Before Mardi Gras shindig that everyone should plan on attending at least once. Our party in Tucson prior to heading east went great, it is definitely a tradition now and will be on February 10 of '07.
India was the big splash in the pond this year. Thank you Joel for hosting us in Goa in March. We spent just over two weeks there: New Delhi, Mumbai, Goa, and Agra to see the Taj Mahal. Planes, trains, and autos, but mostly a lot of decompressing on the beach in what was once the Portuguese part of India. A truly incredible experience.
We did the roast in San Francisco; Brett and Johanna hosted while Dawg got grilled. Fantastic time, next year's is in Tucson of all places. George and Murky are hosting.
We kept up trips to Palm Springs, Vegas, and other places for volunteer work, but George managed to miss Mexico altogether. Jennifer did make it to Rocky Point once. George wasn't diving, and we both had too much else going on for a trip further south.
Work and volunteer work has pretty much been a repeat of last year, though Jennifer is not only now on the Board for the Community Food Bank, she is now the Board Secretary.
We are so excited to announce a new family member. Our nephew Nicholas was born in June to Joelle (Jennifer's sister) and Mike in Newport. He is unimaginably cute and totally fun to be with, though it is great being able to give him back when done. All three are joining us, along with Bub and El and Jim and Margo over Christmas here in Tucson, so we'll have a full house.
At Christmas, and probably Mardi Gras, we'll be sharing the plans to our new addition. They've just been approved by the county historical board; building should start in early '07. Just in time as the current garage is too full for more work on the plane. It is almost half-way done, meaning about 90% is left. There are recognizable wings, tail feathers, and the fuselage sorta looks like an airplane. It's not quite to the point we can sit in it and make airplane noises, but almost.
Finally, most of you know George was diagnosed with a treatable form of kidney disease in April. He's got "minimal change disease" and has been taking steroids and 7 other drugs to work on it. So far treatment has been slow but effective.
Hope to see you in 2007!
Love,
George and Jennifer
